Ligand-induced receptor oligomerization is an established mechanism for receptor tyrosine kinase activation. However, numerous receptor tyrosine kinases are expressed in multicomponent complexes with other receptors that may signal independently or alter the binding characteristics of the receptor tyrosine kinase.
