The Comprex supercharger compresses air by direct transmission of energy from an expanding gas utilizing compression and expansion waves. The name Comprex is a contraction of Compression-Expander. Although the phenomena of nonsteady flow have been studied extensively in connection with explosions, diesel fuel injection, railway airbrakes, water hammer, safety equipment in hydraulic power stations, and so on, the use of these effects in gases is relatively new. This paper deals with the Comprex…
Modeling and control of pressure-wave supercharged engine systems
This thesis analyzes the application of so-called pressure-wave superchargers (PWS) with spark-ignition (SI) engines. Traditionally, the torque of a gasoline engine has been controlled by throttling
EGR control of pressure-wave supercharged IC engines
Abstract This paper addresses the problem of exhaust gas recirculation occurring when pressure-wave superchargers are used as boosting devices for IC engines. During hard accelerations, critical
Design and Simulation of a Pressure Wave Supercharger for a Small Two-Stroke Engine
Abstract : As small, Remotely Piloted Aircraft become more prevalent as aerial observation platforms in the modern era, there will continue to be a desire to improve their capabilities. The lowered
Experimental investigation of hot-jet ignition of methane-hydrogen mixtures in a constant-volume combustor
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)%%%%Investigations of a constant-volume combustor ignited by a penetrating transient jet (a puff) of hot reactive gas have been conducted in
A Review of Wave Rotor Technology and Its Applications
The objective of this paper is to provide a succinct review of past and current research in developing wave rotor technology. This technology has shown unique capabilities to enhance the performance

Accurate animation of the thermo‐fluidic performance of the pressure‐wave machine and its balanced material operation
TLDR
The potential to apply accurate animation for such shock‐tube like behaviour of compressible flow is now economically promising with a view to optimizing the design of the pressure wave machine.
NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF UNSTEADY- FLOW PROCESSES IN WAVE ROTORS
The wave rotor (pressure exchanger) is a device working based on a relatively simple idea of operation, but is challenging in its technical realization and difficult to simulate numerically. It has
A 150 and 300 kW lightweight diesel aircraft engine design study
The diesel engine was reinvestigated as an aircraft powerplant through design study conducted to arrive at engine configurations and applicable advanced technologies. Two engines are discussed, a 300
Numerical optimisation of a micro-wave rotor turbine using a quasi-two-dimensional CFD model and a hybrid algorithm
TLDR
An aerodynamic shape optimisation of a power generating non-axial micro-wave rotor turbine and seeks to enhance the shaft power output while preserving the wave rotor’s capacity to function as a pressure-exchanging device.
