Both GTP and PMIP (Proxy Mobile IP) based approaches rely on an all-IP core network to enable interworking mobility, while other standards and solutions heavily depend on clients’ implementation with additional hardware and software. The client-based approach requires coordinated and lockstep efforts from both operators and device vendors, making it more difficult to arrive at a short-term solution.
