Cladophora glomera is a genus of widely distributed, global, sessile, large green algae, which is also a euryhaline alga. This study discovered that changes in salinity can induce C. glomera to produce massive amounts of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) when controlling other environmental conditions. If culturing C. glomera with salinity greater than a 3.0‰ medium for 24 hours, large amounts of EPS will be secreted. And the level of polysaccharides, the primary component of EPS, is…

Extracellular Polysaccharide Production by Thraustochytrid Protists
Four strains of marine stramenopilan protists, the thraustochytrids, were studied for their ability to produce extracellular polysaccharides (EPSs), suggesting a role for EPS in preventing desiccation of cells.
Occurrence of cell-associated mucilage and soluble extracellular polysaccharides in Rostherne Mere and their possible significance
Investigation in a eutrophic freshwater lake found no direct correlation occurred between algal-associated mucilage and soluble EPS over a single annual cycle, and the study of the soluble EPS is important to understand the carbon cycle in freshwaters.
Cladophora is found in a variety of marine and fresh‐waters and provides habitat and food for numerous organisms and is considered an early opportunist and relatively palatable to invertebrates.
Removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution by common freshwater filamentous algae
Non-living (dried) biomass of five common filamentous algae belonging to Chlorophyta and Cyanophyta (Cyanobacteria) were screened for their metal ion sorption and removal efficiency in a batch
A novel integrated approach to quantitatively evaluate the efficiency of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) extraction process
The proposed approach here offers an effective tool to select appropriate EPS extraction methods and determine the optimal extraction conditions and their extraction efficiencies are evaluated as one real case study.
Colorimetric Method for Determination of Sugars and Related Substances
