The Carcinostatic Activity of ^-(A^-Heterocyclic Carboxaldehyde Thiosemicarbazones II. 3-Hydroxypyridine-2-carboxaldehyde Thiosemicarbazone1

Abstract

3-Hydroxypy rid ine-2-carboxaldehyf le thiosemicarbazone (3-HP) has been shown to be active against leukemia L1210, Ehrlich ascites carcinoma, lym]>homa L5178Y, the Lewis lung carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma 755. 3-HP is active, in some in stances, by gavage and also by delayed treatment. 3-HP is a member of a broad class of a-(.Y)-heterocyclic carboxaldehyde thiosemicarbazones, several of which have demonstrable carcinostatic activity. The active compounds share several elec tronic, structural, and reactive features in common. They all contain the N*—N*-—S* tridentate ligand system.
