The ongoing global spread and increased prevalence of CTX-M-type extended-spectrum β-lactamases in Enterobacteriaceae is of great concern. The successful distribution of CTX-M enzymes mainly involves Escherichia coli causing systemic as well as urinary tract infections in patients worldwide.
