Modified Bilhaut-Cloquet Procedure for the Reconstruction of Wassel Type III Radial Polydactyly

The modification of Bihaut-Cloquet procedure is an effective way to provide a well-functioning thumb for Wassel type III radial polydactyly thumbs.

An unusual case of radial polydactyly, (tetraplication of the thumb, duplication of the radial carpal bones and bifurcation of the radius)

This patient had four thumbs, duplicated radial carpal bones, and a bifurcated radius, the first case of such characteristics reported to date, and proposes some modifications in the nomenclature and classification of radial polydactyly.

Fine manipulation can improve the postoperative nail deformity, so that the reconstructed nail reaches a satisfactory aesthetic score.

Radial Polydactyly: Double or nothing?

This thesis gathered data in an international, multicenter setting, with long-term follow-up, and focussed on the most common radial polydactyly types (i.e., types II, IV, and IV with triphalangeal components or ‘IV-Tph’).

Pedicle complex tissue flap transfer for reconstruction of duplicated thumbs with unequal size

Harvesting a pedicle flap from a severed thumb is a safe and reliable procedure and defects of the preserved thumb, such as the skin, nail, and bone, can be effectively restored using the complex tissue flap.

The Bilhaut-Cloquet Procedure Revisited

The Bilhaut-Cloquet procedure, with certain modifications, is found to be a useful method of reconstruction of thumb duplication.

Management of thumb duplication.

Combination procedures, involving core tissues of bone, joint, and tendon or peripheral tissues--neurovascular, subcutaneous, and skin--or sometimes all of these, are preferred for reconstruction, although secondary reconstructive procedures may be required.

Management of thumb duplication.

Radial polydactyly, a common congenital problem, most often occurs as thumb duplication, and combination procedures, involving core tissues of bone, joint, and tendon or peripheral tissues--neurovascular, subcutaneous, and skin--or sometimes all of these, are preferred for reconstruction.

Duplication of the Thumb

Duplication of the thumb. A retrospective review of two hundred and thirty-seven cases.

The results emphasize the importance of providing muscle balance and, in young patients, of performing an arthroplasty of the interphalangeal or metacarpophalangeal joint when indicated, although arthrodesis was indicated as a salvage operation for Group-B patients who were more than fifteen years old.
