In February 1979 a basalt statue with a bilingual Assyrian-Aramaic inscription engraved on it was accidentally unearthed at Teil Fakhriyah, in northeast Syria. The site is now identified äs ancient Sikan. It is about 2 km from Teil Halaf — known äs ancient Guzan — on the other side of the Habur river, a tributary of the Euphrates. Both Sikan and Guzan are mentioned on the basalt statue. Both cities (or city-states) must have been of Strategie importance to Assyrian rulers in their military… Expand
