We present a study of the metallicity and age of the globular clusters system of M49 (NGC 4472), the most luminous galaxy in the Virgo Cluster. We measure Lick indices for 47 globular clusters (GCs) in M49 from LRIS/Keck spectra and establish their metallicity parameters qualitatively in comparison to the Galactic GCs and to published data for 150 M87 GCs. We then compare our measurements with the predictions of models for the integrated light of old single-burst stellar systems by Worthey and…
The Globular Cluster System of NGC 4636 and Formation of Globular Clusters in Giant Elliptical Galaxies
We present a spectroscopic analysis of the metallicities, ages, and alpha-elements of the globular clusters (GCs) in the giant elliptical galaxy (gE) NGC 4636 in the Virgo Cluster. Line indices of
The globular cluster system of M60 (NGC 4649). II. Kinematics of the globular cluster system
We present a kinematic analysis of the globular cluster (GC) system in the giant elliptical galaxy (gE) M60 in the Virgo Cluster, using a photometric and spectroscopic database of 121 GCs (83 blue
An optical/NIR survey of globular clusters in early-type galaxies - II. Ages of globular cluster systems and the relation to galaxy morphology
Context. Some photometric studies of extragalactic globular cluster (GC) systems using the optical and near-infrared colour combination have suggested the presence of a large fraction of
Washington CCD Photometry of the Globular Cluster System of the Giant Elliptical Galaxy M60 in Virgo
We present a photometric study of the GCs in the giant elliptical galaxy M60 in the Virgo Cluster, based on deep, relatively wide field Washington -->CT1 CCD images. The CMD reveals a significant
SUBARU SPECTROSCOPY OF THE GLOBULAR CLUSTERS IN THE VIRGO GIANT ELLIPTICAL GALAXY M86
We present the first spectroscopic study of the globular clusters (GCs) in the giant elliptical galaxy (gE) M86 in the Virgo Cluster. Using spectra obtained in the Multi-Object Spectroscopy mode of
Keck Spectroscopy of Globular Clusters in the Virgo Cluster Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy VCC 1386
We present the results of a Keck spectroscopic study of globular clusters associated with the Virgo Cluster dwarf elliptical galaxy (dE) VCC 1386. We analyze blue spectroscopic absorption lines from
A 2dF spectroscopic study of globular clusters in NGC 5128: probing the formation history of the nearest giant elliptical
We have performed a spectroscopic study of globular clusters (GCs) in the nearest giant elliptical NGC 5128 using the 2dF facility at the Anglo-Australian Telescope. We obtained integrated optical
THE RICH GLOBULAR CLUSTER SYSTEM OF ABELL 1689 AND THE RADIAL DEPENDENCE OF THE GLOBULAR CLUSTER FORMATION EFFICIENCY
We study the rich globular cluster (GC) system in the center of the massive cluster of galaxies Abell 1689 (z = 0.18), one of the most powerful gravitational lenses known. With 28 Hubble Space
COLOR BIMODALITY IN M87 GLOBULAR CLUSTERS
We present an analysis of a 50 orbit Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) observation of the M87 globular cluster system. We use the extraordinary depth of this data set to
Gemini/GMOS Spectra of Globular Clusters in the Virgo Giant Elliptical NGC 4649
NGC 4649 (M60) is one of a handful of giant Virgo ellipticals. We have obtained Gemini/GMOS (Gemini North Multi-Object Spectrograph) spectra for 38 globular clusters (GCs) associated with this

The Ages and Abundances of a Large Sample of M87 Globular Clusters
A subset of 150 globular clusters (GCs) in M87 has been selected for abundance and age determinations from the 1997 sample of Cohen & Ryzhov. This has been done solely on the basis of the
Ages and Metallicities of Globular Clusters in NGC 4472
We have derived ages and metallicities from co-added spectra of 131 globular clusters associated with the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 4472. Based upon a calibration with Galactic globular clusters,
The Relative Ages of the Globular Cluster Subpopulations in M87
Relative ages for the globular cluster (GC) subpopulations in the Virgo giant elliptical galaxy M87 (NGC 4486) have been determined from Stromgren photometry obtained with the Wide Field Planetary
Keck Spectroscopy of Globular Clusters in the Sombrero Galaxy
We analyze high signal-to-noise spectra for 14 globular clusters (GCs) in the Sombrero galaxy, NGC 4594 (= M104), obtained with the LRIS spectrograph on the Keck I telescope. We find generally good
The Globular Cluster System in the Outer Regions of NGC 4472
We have undertaken a study of the globular cluster (GC) systems of a large sample of elliptical and spiral galaxies in order to test specific predictions of galaxy formation models. Here we present
The Kinematics and Metallicity of the M31 Globular Cluster System
With the ultimate aim of distinguishing between various models describing the formation of galaxy halos (e.g., radial or multiphase collapse and random mergers), we have completed a spectroscopic
AGE ESTIMATES FOR GLOBULAR CLUSTERS IN NGC 1399
We present high signal-to-noise Keck spectra for 10 globular clusters associated with the giant Fornax elliptical galaxy NGC 1399 and compare measured line indices with current stellar population

We present deep integrated Washington CCD photometry of the extremely populous globular cluster system of NGC 4486 (M87) in Virgo. The metallicities of 407 of the best candidates with T 1 < 22 have
Integrated spectroscopy of bulge globular clusters and fields - II: implications for population synthesis models and elliptical galaxies
An empirical calibration is presented for the synthetic Lick indices (e.g. Mg2, ‹Fe›, H s, etc.) of Simple Stellar Population (SSP) models that for the first time extends up to solar metallicity.
