Suspension cultures of Vitis vinifera grown in an inducive polyphenol synthesis medium accumulated stilbene glycosides. (E)-piceatannol (3,5,3‘,4‘-tetrahydroxystilbene) 3-O-β-glucoside (2) and (Z)-resveratrol (3,5,4‘-trihydroxystilbene) 3-O-β-glucoside (3) were isolated from these cells. Their complete structures were determined by 1D and 2D NMR techniques.
