We discuss the signature of a cosmic string wake in 21cm redshift surveys. Since 21cm surveys probe higher redshifts than optical large-scale structure surveys, the signatures of cosmic strings are more manifest in 21cm maps than they are in optical galaxy surveys. We find that, provided the tension of the cosmic string exceeds a critical value (which depends on both the redshift when the string wake is created and the redshift of observation), a cosmic string wake will generate an emission… Expand

The 21 cm signature of a cosmic string loop
Cosmic string loops lead to nonlinear baryon overdensities at early times, even before the time which in the standard LCDM model corresponds to the time of reionization. These overdense structuresExpand
High redshift signatures in the 21 cm forest due to cosmic string wakes
Cosmic strings induce minihalo formation in the early universe. The resultant minihalos cluster in string wakes and create a ``21 cm forest'' against the cosmic microwave background (CMB) spectrum.Expand
THE POWER SPECTRUM OF COSMIC MICROWAVE BACKGROUND POLARIZATION FROM COSMIC STRING WAKES
We compute the integrated Sachs – Wolfe type contribution to the CMB polarization power spectrum from cosmic string wakes. An introduction to topological defects, cosmic strings, CMB polarization,Expand
Extracting the Signal of Cosmic String Wakes from 21-cm Observations
A cosmic string wake produces a distinct non-Gaussian signal in 21-cm intensity maps at redshifts above that of reionization. While the string signal is (locally) larger in amplitude than the signalExpand
Wouthuysen-Field absorption trough in cosmic string wakes
The baryon density enhancement in cosmic string wakes leads to a stronger coupling of the spin temperature to the gas kinetic temperate inside these string wakes than in the intergalactic mediumExpand
The Flow Around a Cosmic String, Part I: Hydrodynamic Solution
Cosmic strings are linear topological defects which are hypothesized to be produced during inflation. Most searches for strings have been relying on the string's lensing of background galaxies orExpand
Angular Power Spectrum of B-mode Polarization from Cosmic String Wakes
Cosmic string wakes produce direct B-mode polarization at leading order in cosmological perturbation theory, as worked out in a previous publication \cite{BDH} in the case of a single string wake.Expand
Early structure formation from cosmic string loops
We examine the effects of cosmic strings on structure formation and on the ionization history of the universe. While Gaussian perturbations from inflation are known to provide the dominantExpand
Dark matter distribution induced by a cosmic string wake in the nonlinear regime
We study the distribution of dark matter in the nonlinear regime in a model in which the primordial fluctuations include, in addition to the dominant primordial Gaussian fluctuations generated by theExpand
Disruption of Cosmic String Wakes by Gaussian Fluctuations
We study the stability of cosmic string wakes against the disruption by the dominant Gaussian fluctuations which are present in cosmological models. We find that for a string tension given by $G \muExpand
