The 1.5 order formalism (sometimes called a ‘trick’) is the cornerstone of modern supergravity. In this paper, the free massive Wess Zumino theory is used as a simple toy model to look at the BRS symmetry of the first, second and 1.5 order formalisms. This easily shows that the 1.5 order formalism is flawed for all theories. The 1.5 algebra naively appears to close. However, when it is analyzed in detail, in a simple model, where easy calculations are available, the 1.5 formalism always…

The role of the 1.5 order formalism and the gauging of spacetime groups in the development of gravity and supergravity theories
The 1.5 formalism played a key role in the discovery of supergravity and it has been used to prove the invariance of essentially all supergravity theories under local supersymmetry. It emerged from

Local BRST Cohomology in MinimalD=4,N=1 Supergravity
Abstract The local BRST cohomology is computed in old and new minimal supergravity, including the coupling to Yang–Mills gauge multiplets. This covers the determination of all gauge invariant local
A Candidate for a Supergravity Anomaly
Using elementary BRS cohomology theory, this paper describes a supergravity anomaly analogous to, but very different from, the well known gauge and gravitational anomalies. The form of the anomaly is
Calculation of BRS cohomology with spectral sequences
A method for finding the general form of the BRS cohomology spaceH for the various gauge and supersymmetry theories is presented. The method is adapted for use in the space of integrated local
Introduction to Supersymmetry and Supergravity
Over the past years, we have witnessed a dramatic increase in “public interest” in supersymmetry and super gravity. This interest cannot as yet be based on any solid experimental facts, but it has
Quantum Field Theory And Critical Phenomena
Over the last twenty years quantum field theory has become not only the framework for the discussion of all fundamental interactions except gravity, but also for the understanding of second-order

Slavnov-Taylor and ward identities in the electroweak theory
In the framework of the electroweak theory, we discuss a class of gauge-fixing choices suitable for calculating electromagnetic processes. In particular, we show that with our choices, in addition to
From Slavnov-Taylor identities to the ZJ equation
In their work devoted to the proof of the renormalizability of non-Abelian gauge theories in the broken phase, Lee and Zinn-Justin have directly benefited from Slavnov’s important contributions.
