In the late 1920s and early 1930s, Tamil south India experienced a ‘music boom’. This term ‘music boom’, drawn from a letter to the editor and published by the Madras daily, The Hindu, was described as a rapid, historically unprecedented ‘dissemination of music among the people’ [1].
