It is hypothesized on the basis of experimental data that for eight species of old-world warblers, two PhyItoscopus and six Sylvia species, the young birds first migrate to their winter quarters in the following way: They migrate along a genetically fixed route as long as migratory activity is produced by an endogenous temporal program, connected with circannual rhythms controlling their migratory behavior (' Vektoren-Navigations-Hypothese' [1]).
