This report introduces a new device among latissimus dorsi flaps: the "reduced" latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous flap. This flap consists of a proximal musculocutaneous unit and a distal, thin fasciocutaneous unit (the "reduced" portion). The former unit carries a reliable blood supply from the thoracodorsal artery and is able to cover deeper recipient defects, while the latter provides a well-contoured reconstruction of the defect.
