Chemically modified tetracyclines (CMTs) are thought to inhibit bone resorption through inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases. Here we report that some tetracyclines also induce apoptosis in rabbit osteoclasts and inhibit differentiation and activity of osteoclasts in murine osteoblast/marrow cocultures.
