In the Siebengebirge Mountains, a moderately alkaline and a strongly alkaline basalt-trachyte series can be distinguished. Both, however, are assumed to be derived from a single parent magma. The vast majority of the acid and intermediate differentiates is restricted to the centre of the region. A close relationship between faults and volcanism is indicated.
