We explore the dynamics of a system where input spectra in the optical domain with very disparate center frequencies are strongly coupled via highly phase-matched, cascaded second-order nonlinear processes driven by terahertz radiation. The only requirement is that one of the input spectra contain sufficient bandwidth to generate the phase-matched terahertz-frequency driver. The frequency separation between the input spectra (or pump and seed spectra) can be more than ten times larger than the…

Raman Shifting Induced by Cascaded Quadratic Nonlinearities for Terahertz Generation

Cascaded quadratic optical nonlinearities are well known for producing effective third‐order nonlinear optical effects such as self‐phase modulation or self‐steepening. As a result, they have been

Cascaded parametric amplification for highly efficient terahertz generation.

Feasible designs are presented that enable the THz wave, initially generated by difference frequency generation between a narrowband optical pump and optical seed, to self-start a cascaded energy downconversion of pump photons in a single pass through a single crystal.

Cascaded second-order processes for the efficient generation of narrowband terahertz radiation

The generation of high-energy narrowband terahertz radiation has gained heightened importance in recent years due to its potentially transformative impact on spectroscopy, high-resolution radar and

Cascaded interactions mediated by terahertz radiation.

It is shown that cascaded optical parametric amplification offers a pathway toward THz-wave generation beyond the Manly-Rowe limit and toward the generation of high-energy, sparse frequency-combs.

High efficiency terahertz generation in a multi-stage system.

The terahertz generation efficiency can be greatly enhanced by compensating the dispersion of the pump pulse after each stage, and the governing 2-D coupled wave equations in a cylindrically symmetric geometry are numerically solved using the finite difference method.

Cascaded nonlinear difference-frequency generation of enhanced terahertz wave production.

Cascaded nonlinear optical interactions are analyzed for their potential to overcome quantum-defect related limitations on the efficiency of terahertz wave difference-frequency generation. The

Pulse sequences for efficient multi-cycle terahertz generation in periodically poled lithium niobate.

The proposed methods are shown to circumvent laser induced damage limitations at Joule-level pumping by 1µm lasers to enable multi-cycle terahertz sources with pulse energies >> 10 milli-joules and an analytic formulation valid for arbitrary pulse formats and closed-form expressions for important cases are presented.

Enhancement of terahertz wave generation by cascaded χ^(2) processes in LiNbO_3

We demonstrate, to the best of our knowledge, a novel generation process of a terahertz (THz) electromagnetic wave via a noncollinear χ(2) process in LiNbO3 with a phase-front-controlled femtosecond

Perspective: Terahertz wave parametric generator and its applications

The injection-seeded terahertz (THz) parametric generator (is-TPG) is one of the most high-power single-longitudinal mode THz-wave sources. Our system is less influenced by scattering, refraction,

Cascaded nonlinearities for ultrafast nonlinear optical science and applications

Cascaded nonlinearities in quadratic nonlinear crystals underlie an immensely powerful control over the ultrafast nonlinear response, where it is possible at will to change the sign of the

Intracavity parametric generation of nanosecond terahertz radiation using quasi-phase-matching.

We report the use of quasi-phase-matching techniques based on periodically-poled MgO:LiNbO(3) for the generation of nanosecond duration pulses of terahertz radiation in intracavity optical parametric
