Collinear phase-matched optical rectification is studied in ZnGeP2 pumped with near-infrared light. The pump-intensity dependence is presented for three crystal lengths (0.3, 1.0, and 3.0 mm) to determine the effects of linear optical absorption, nonlinear optical absorption, and terahertz free-carrier absorption on the generation. Critical parameters such as the coherence length (for velocity matching), dispersion length (for linear pulse broadening), and nonlinear length (for self-phase…
Terahertz generation by optical rectification in chalcopyrite crystals ZnGeP2, CdGeP2 and CdSiP2.
TLDR
It is found that CdGeP2 produced the strongest emission at telecoms wavelengths, while CdSiP2 is generally the strongest source.
Generation of broadband terahertz pulses via optical rectification in a chalcopyrite CdSiP2 crystal.
TLDR
It is envisioned that THz generation from CSP could be further enhanced by confining the optical pump pulse to sub-wavelength waveguides.
Ultra-broad generation of terahertz radiation from sub-wavelength lithium niobate waveguides
Terahertz (THz) electric field pulses containing frequency components across an ultra-wide spectrum are important for spectroscopy investigations, and are valuable to improving the application of THz
Terahertz electro-optic detection using a ⟨012⟩-cut chalcopyrite ZnGeP2 crystal
The electro-optic detection capabilities of a 〈012〉-cut chalcopyrite ZnGeP2 (ZGP) crystal is investigated in the terahertz (THz) frequency regime. Our experiments attest that ZGP exhibits low THz
(012)-cut chalcopyrite ZnGeP2 as a high-bandwidth terahertz electro-optic detection crystal
The detection properties of a chalcopyrite zinc germanium diphosphide (ZnGeP2, ZGP) electro-optic (EO) crystal, having thickness of 1080 μm and cut along the <012> plane, is studied in the terahertz
Linear optical properties of ZnGeP_2 in the terahertz range
We investigated the optical properties of zinc germanium phosphide (ZnGeP2 or ZGP) crystals in a wide terahertz (THz) range from 0.2 THz to 6 THz, and made comparisons between crystals grown by both
Terahertz birefringence and absorption of a chalcopyrite CdSiP2 crystal
The terahertz (THz) birefringence and absorption of a chalcopyrite CdSiP2 (CSP) crystal are studied at frequencies between 0.5 and 2.9 THz. Time-domain spectroscopy measurements are used to record
Terahertz generation by means of ZnGeP2 large aperture photoconductive antenna
Abstract. The generation of terahertz (THz) radiation using a ZnGeP2 (ZGP) large-aperture photoconductive antenna (PCA) was demonstrated. The semiconductors were excited above and below the bandgap
Investigation of ultra-broadband terahertz generation from sub-wavelength lithium niobate waveguides excited by few-cycle femtosecond laser pulses.
TLDR
2D finite-difference time-domain simulations are used to show that ultra-broadband Cherenkov radiation can be produced from SiO2:MgO-LiNbO3:SiO2 waveguides having core dimensions that are sub-wavelength with respect to the optical pump pulse being guided.

Broadband terahertz pulse emission from ZnGeP2.
TLDR
Optical rectification is demonstrated in (110)-cut ZnGeP(2) (ZGP) providing broadband terahertz (THz) generation and peak-to-peak field amplitude is larger than in the other materials due to either lower nonlinear absorption or larger second-order nonlinearity.
Design of high-energy terahertz sources based on optical rectification.
TLDR
It is shown that imaging errors in a pulse-front-tilting setup consisting of a grating and a lens can lead to a THz beam with strongly asymmetric intensity profile and strong divergence, thereby limiting applications and optimized setup parameters are given to reduce such distortions.

TLDR
Using a simple model, it is demonstrated that two- and three-photon absorption strongly limit the THz generation efficiency at high pump fluences in ZnTe and GaP.
