Tensions exerted by cleavage furrows of Echinarachnius parma were measured by means of calibrated, flexible glass needles. The tensions exerted by the first and second furrows in isometric contraction were, respectively, 1.58 X 10(-3) dyne (S.D. 0.41 X 10(-3) dyne) and 1.43 X 10(-3) dyne (S.D. 0.44 X 10(-3) dyne).
