The representation of temporal information has been in the center of intensive research activities over the years in the areas of knowledge representation, databases and more recently, the Semantic Web. The proposed approach extends the existing framework of representing temporal information in ontologies by allowing for representation of concepts evolving in time (referred to as “dynamic” information) and of their properties in terms of qualitative descriptions in addition to quantitative ones…

A Semantic Representation of Time Intervals in OWL 2

TLDR
This work shows the relationship between the OWL 2 semantics and the representation of time intervals; then it introduces a qualitative representation of temporal information based on a set of SWRL rules, that allows a sound and complete reasoning mechanism.

Representing a reference foundational ontology of events in SROIQ

TLDR
This paper proposes a number of alternative translations from UFO-B’s original axiomatization (in first-order logic and in the Alloy formal language) to the description logic SROIQ, which is the formal underpinning of OWL 2 DL.

Representing the UFO-B Foundational Ontology of Events in SROIQ

TLDR
This paper proposes a number of alternative translations from UFO-B’s original axiomatization in first-order logic and in the Alloy formal language to the description logic SROIQ, which is the formal underpinning of OWL 2 DL.

Temporal Extensions to RDF

TLDR
This paper reviews Semantic Web techniques that are proposed for representing temporal data in RDF and shows how reification causes RDF repositories to explode in size.

TISCO: Temporal Scoping of Facts

TLDR
This paper proposes a generic approach which addresses the problem of determining the temporal scopes of facts by curating temporal information of facts in the knowledge bases by employing matching methods that consider both a single fact or a group of facts at a time.

A Software Architecture for Narratives

TLDR
A software architecture for building narratives that is composed of several tools for creating, storing and visualizing narratives and endowed with a set of semantic relations that connect an event to another.

State-of-the-Art Approaches for Meta-Knowledge Assertion in the Web of Data

TLDR
A systematic review of the various approaches of the four dimensions (namely time, trust, fuzzy, and provenance) to provide an overview of the meta-knowledge assertion techniques in the field of the Semantic Web.

Representing Temporal Information in Lexical Linked Data Resources

TLDR
A perdurantist approach to modelling diachronic lexical information which builds upon work which has been presented and which is based on the ontolex-lemon vocabulary is described.

MOMENT: temporal meta-fact generation and propagation in knowledge graphs

TLDR
This paper proposes an approach called MOMENT that combines two methods, the first uses a set of specified rules to generate meta-facts in knowledge bases where no temporal meta-fact exist and the second exploits existing temporalmeta-facts and a setof Horn rules generated by AMIE to propagate the meta- facts and thus expand the set of temporalMeta-facts.

Temporal Reasoning for Supporting Temporal Queries in OWL 2.0

TLDR
An approach for reasoning and querying over temporal information in OWL ontologies and a SPARQL-based temporal query language capable of exploiting the characteristics of the underlying representation is implemented and discussed.

CHRONOS Ed: A Tool for Handling Temporal Ontologies in Protégé

TLDR
CHRONOS Ed is introduced, a plug-in for Protege that enables handling of temporal ontologies inProtege the same way static ontologies are handled.

CHRONOS: A Tool for Handling Temporal Ontologies in Protégé

CHRONOS is introduced, a plug-in for Protege that enables handling of temporal ontologies inProtege the same way static ontologies are handled.

SOWL: A Framework for Handling Spatio-temporal Information in OWL 2.0

TLDR
SOWL is an ontology for representing and reasoning over spatio-temporal information in OWL that enables representation of static as well as of dynamic information based on the 4D-fluents approach.

tOWL: Integrating Time in OWL

TLDR
This chapter presents the temporal OWL (tOWL) language: a temporal extension of the OWL DL language that supports a perdurantist view on the world, and allows the representation of complex temporal axioms, such as state transitions.

Ontologies of Time: Review and Trends

TLDR
It has been concluded that a cross-disciplinary effort is required to address the features not covered by the existing ontologies of time, and also harmonize the representations addressed differently.

Applied Temporal RDF: Efficient Temporal Querying of RDF Data with SPARQL

TLDR
This paper presents a syntax and storage format based on named graphs to express temporal RDF, and shows that it vastly reduces the number of triples by eliminating redundancies resulting in an increased performance for processing and querying.

LODE: Linking Open Descriptions of Events

TLDR
A model for publishing records of events as Linked Data is described, which can be used to locate stable URIs for events that have occurred, provide RDFS+OWL descriptions and link to related resources.

Introducing Time into RDF

TLDR
This paper presents a framework to incorporate temporal reasoning into RDF, yielding temporal RDF graphs, and presents a semantics for these kinds of graphs which includes the notion of temporal entailment and a syntax to incorporate this framework into standard R DF graphs, using the RDF vocabulary plus temporal labels.
