Abstract The 1:2 adducts of bis(3-nitro-2,4-pentanedionato)copper(II) with ethylenediamine, 1,3-diaminopropane and 1,4-diaminobutane have been isolated and characterized. These adducts have been considered to be intermediates in the formation of the corresponding tetraaza macrocyclic complexes and a template reaction mechanism is proposed.
