The characteristic temperature dependence of the lattice basis vector length d of phospholipid-water systems in the inverted hexagonal (HII) phase has been investigated with X-ray diffraction. For 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DOPE), d falls sharply from 78.1 A at 10 degrees C to 62.5 A at 90 degrees C.
