Traditionally, all freshwater representatives of red algae with uniaxial cartilagineous and pseudoparenchymatous thalli were placed in the genus Lemanea. Two subgenera of this genus were distinguished, Lemanea and Paralemanea. The recently proposed elevation of these subgenera to genera is fully justified and generally accepted. However, the increasing data from natural populations of Lemanea shows that not all the traditional diacritical features are reliable for distinguishing species. This…

Morphological and ecological characterization of Batrachospermales (Rhodophyta) in the Jarama Basin, Iberian Peninsula
TLDR
The distribution of Batrachosermales from the Jarama Basin showed a strong affinity with temperate regions of central Europe and floras of other continents.
Morphological and ecological characterization of Batrachospermales (Rhodophyta) in the Jarama Basin
Morphological and ecological characterization of Batrachospermales (Rhodophyta) in the Jarama Basin (Iberian Peninsula) Five populations of freshwater red algae were investigated between February
Morphology, distribution and ecology of the freshwater red algae Paralemanea (Batrachospermaceae, Batrachospermales, Rhodophyta) in Serbia
TLDR
The morphology, distribution and ecology of 15 populations of Paralemanea collected from 2004 to 2011 in 12 rivers in Serbia are described, finding that P. annulata and P. catenata often grow in oligotrophic conditions and rarely in eutrophic conditions.
Epiphytic cyanophytes Xenococcus kerneri and Chamaesiphon minutus on the freshwater red alga Paralemanea catenata (Rhodophyta)
TLDR
Epiphytes of Paralemanea catenata (Kützing) Vis & Sheath (Rhodophyta) were studied on material from the River Dyje in National Park Podyjí and two species were recognized on the cortex of the thalli.

Diversity of Batrachospermales (Rhodophyta) in the Iberian Peninsula
TLDR
Seven taxa reported in the region using current taxonomy are confirmed with sequence data and morphology, and biogeographic trends show a flora with most species being well represented in parts of Europe, two taxa that are shared between Europe and North America, and one cosmopolitan species.
Rare Macroscopic Algae Species In The Pechora And Vychegda River Basins (North-Eastern Part Of European Russia)
Abstract Ten rare species of macroscopic algae were found in freshwater ecosystems of the Pechora and Vychegda River basins, belonging to four divisions: Cyanoprokaryota - 1 species, Rhodophyta - 3,
MORPHOLOGICAL AND ECOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF RARE AND ENDANGERED SPECIES LEMANEA FLUVIATILIS ( LINNÉ ) C . AG . ( LEMANEACEAE , RHODOPHYTA ) ON NEW LOCALITIES IN SERBIA
In this study, morphological and ecological characteristics of Lemanea fluviatilis (Linné) C. Ag. that was found on localities in Resava River (East Serbia), Božička River and Vlasina River (South
Phenology of Paralemanea mexicana (Batrachospermales, Rhodophyta) in a high‐altitude stream in central Mexico
TLDR
Efficient reproductive strategies of P. mexicana observed in this study can be interpreted as adaptations to successfully colonize streams; however, these features may not have been common in the study region due to restricted microhabitat conditions and geographic isolation.
The Efficacy of the DNA Barcoding Proctol in determining species in the red algal orders Batrachospermales and Thoreales and a comparison with the plastid rbcL gene.
TLDR
This study examines the usefulness of the mitochondrial gene encoding cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) in delimiting species within the orders Batrachospermales and Thoreales and proposes the elevation of the current recognized infrageneric sections to the status of genus based on both COI and rbcL genes sequence data.

Systematics of the freshwater red algal family Lemaneaceae in North America
TLDR
Multivariate morphometrics and image analysis were used to determine the number of well-distinguished taxa in the freshwater red algal family Lemaneaceae from North America, and revealed six distinct morphological entities, three with characteristics of Lemanea and threeWith characteristics of Paralemanea.
Notes on some interesting freshwater Rhodophyta from Finland
TLDR
New records for freshwater red algae, new for Europe, and new records for some other interesting and rather rare taxa such as Batrachospermum atrum, Lemanea mamillosa, Sirodotia suecica, S. tenuissima and Tuomeya americana are documented.
A re‐examination of the morphology, ultrastructure and classification of genera in the Lemaneaceae (Batrachospermales, Rhodophyta)
TLDR
A new family is described, the Psilosiphonaceae, which appears to be closely related to Lemanea and Paralemanea, with an outer cortex that has cells of increasing size and vacuolation from the periphery to the interior and not in obvious rows.
Biodiversity and ecology of algae in mountain bogs (Bohemian forest, Central Europe)
TLDR
In the patterned mires, aerophytic and plankton communities display a high similarity in species composition, however, the linear responses of species to environmental gradients, evaluated by the PCA analyses, showed the importance of microhabitat variety for the species-richness of individual bogs.
A preliminary classification of running‐water sites in Great Britain based on macro‐invertebrate species and the prediction of community type using environmental data
SUMMARY. 1. Macro-invertebrate species lists were obtained for 268 sites on forty-one river systems throughout Great Britain by qualitative sampling in spring, summer and autumn. Information on
