Parasarus Ruz, 1993 comprises small black bees (3-5 mm long) endemic to xeric regions of South America, mainly along of the Andean Cordillera. Prior to this study, the genus included only the type-species P. atacamensis Ruz, 1993 (from northern Chile) which has mesoscutum strongly reticulated and inner hind tibial spur curved apically. In this paper, a taxonomic revision of Parasarus is presented and two new species are described: P. specularis sp. nov. (from central to northwest Argentina…

The diversity of bees in the Chilean fauna is compared with that currently known from DNA barcodes using the BIN system informed by ongoing morphology-based taxonomic research to conclude that the bee fauna of Chile is substantially greater than the 436 species currently known.

This species is unique within Protandrena for its well-developed pronotal lamella, similar to what is found in Pseudopanurgus and Parapsaenythia, and by its protuberant interantennal area.
Biogeographical regionalisation of the Neotropical region.
- Environmental Science, GeographyZootaxa
- 2014
A biogeographic regionalisation of the Neotropical region is proposed as a hierarchical classification of sub-regions, dominions, provinces and districts that seeks to provide universality, objectivity and stability, such that it can be applied when describing distributional areas of particular taxa or comparing different biogeographical analyses.

The most heterogeneous places in terms of distributional patterns can be defined numerically on strictly geographical grounds by plotting the frequency of different distribution patterns on maps, and gradual changes in their relative contribution to a given area can be perceived.
