@article{Varga2007TaxonomicRO, title={Taxonomic revision of Aspergillus section Clavati based on molecular, morphological and physiological data}, author={János Varga and M. J. Due and Jens Christian Frisvad and Robert A Samson}, journal={Studies in Mycology}, year={2007}, volume={59}, pages={89 - 106} }
Aspergillus section Clavati has been revised using morphology, secondary metabolites, physiological characters and DNA sequences. [] Key Result Phylogenetic analysis of beta-tubulin, ITS and calmodulin sequence data indicated that Aspergillus section Clavati includes 6 species, A. clavatus (synonyms: A. apicalis, A. pallidus), A. giganteus, A. rhizopodus, A. longivesica, Neocarpenteles acanthosporus and A. clavatonanicus. Neocarpenteles acanthosporus is the only known teleomorph of this section.

The combined use of the three commonly employed nuclear genes (benA, rpb2, and ITS), the IGS region, and two less often used mitochondrial gene sequences as a single unit resolved several taxonomic ambiguities.
