Many pathogens hijack existing endocytic trafficking pathways to exert toxic effects in cells. Dynamin controls various steps of the intoxication process used by numerous pathogenic bacteria, viruses, and toxins. Targeting dynamin with pharmaceutical compounds may therefore have prophylactic potential.
