INTRODUCTION Enhancement of glucose metabolism and repression of oxidative phosphorylation followed by the Warburg effect is the common hallmark of cancer cells. Hexokinase II (HKII) plays a dual role - first, HKII up-regulation results in increased glycolysis rates.
