Neuropathic pain remains a major clinical problem and a therapeutic challenge because existing analgesics are often ineffective and can cause serious side effects. Increased N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) activity contributes to central sensitization in certain types of neuropathic pain.
