Target detection based on a rotary table-mounted synthetic aperture radar system

Abstract

This paper presents a rotary table-mounted synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system with linear frequency modulated continuous wave (LFMCW) for target detection. A SAR imaging algorithm and a spatial processing procedure are combined to detect drones at unknown positions. The beat signal at the receiver is used to alleviate the high-speed sampling and the high resolution requirements for signals with large bandwidth. In the parameter estimation procedure, the distance and elevation angle between a drone and the radar are estimated, which facilitates an azimuth compression to obtain the image of drones. Simulation results validate the proposed SAR system.
