The resistance to doxorubicin (DOX) is mainly due to the effect of P-glycoprotein encoded by the multidrug resistance-1 (mdr1) gene. Tamoxifen (TAM) has been shown to circumvent multidrug resistance in P-glycoprotein-expressing cell lines.
