An ultrastructural study of motile cell development in the green alga Trentepohlia aurea has revealed the presence of multilayered structures (MLS) associated With flagellar bases. These MLS are ultrastructurally similar to MLS described in pteridophyte and bryophyte sperm and in the zoospore of the green algae Coleochaete and Klebsormidium.
