Pseudochrysops bomoi was described by Comstock and Huntington (1943) from a suite of 12 specimens from Hispaniola (all from Haiti). They used t he combination H emiargus bornoi for the species, since the underside pattern resembles in many ways that of the blues of the genus Hemiargus . Nabokov (1945) erected the genus Pseudochrysops for this lycaenid; the name currently used is Pseudochrysops bornoi.
