Z sources are bright neutron star X-ray binaries, accreting at around the Eddington limit. We analyze the 68 RXTE observations (∼270 ks) of Sco-like Z source GX 17+2 made between 1999 October 3 and 12, covering a complete Z track. We create and fit color-resolved spectra with a model consisting of a thermal multicolor disk, a single-temperature-blackbody boundary layer and a weak Comptonized component. We find that, similar to what was observed for XTE J1701-462 in its Sco-like Z phase, the…

AstroSat/LAXPC view of GX 17+2: spectral evolution along the Z-track

In this paper, we present the first results obtained using $\sim$ 50 ks observations of the bright low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) GX 17+2 with Large Area X-ray Proportional Counter (LAXPC) onboard {\it

Kilohertz quasi-periodic oscillations as probes of the X-ray color-color diagram and neutron star accretion-disk structure for Z sources

Based on the detected kilohertz quasi-periodic oscillations (kHz QPOs) in neutron star low-mass X-ray binaries (NS-LMXBs), we investigate the evolution of the NS magnetosphere-disk structure along

AstroSat view of LMC X-2: evolution of broad-band X-ray spectral properties along a complete Z-track

In this paper, we report the first results of the extragalactic Z-source LMC X-2 obtained using the $\sim$ 140 ks observations with {\it Large Area X-ray Proportional Counter (LAXPC)} and {\it Soft

Constraining the Coronal Heights and Readjustment Velocities Based on the Detection of a Few Hundred Seconds Delays in the Z Source GX 17+2

Neutron star Z-type sources provide a unique platform in order to understand the structure of accretion disk–corona geometry emitting close to the Eddington luminosity. Using RXTE and Nuclear

SPECTRAL PROPERTIES OF X-RAY BINARIES IN CENTAURUS A

We present a spectral investigation of X-ray binaries (XBs) in NGC 5128 (Cen A), using six 100 ks Chandra observations taken over two months in 2007. We divide our sample into thermally and

A TEST OF THE NATURE OF THE FE K LINE IN THE NEUTRON STAR LOW-MASS X-RAY BINARY SERPENS X-1

Broad Fe K emission lines have been widely observed in the X-ray spectra of black hole systems as well as in neutron star systems. The intrinsically narrow Fe K fluorescent line is generally believed

Measuring mass-loss rates and constraining shock physics using X-ray line profiles of O stars from the Chandra archive

We quantitatively investigate the extent of wind absorption signatures in the X-ray grating spectra of all non-magnetic, effectively single O stars in the Chandra archive via line profile fitting.

COMMON PATTERNS IN THE EVOLUTION BETWEEN THE LUMINOUS NEUTRON STAR LOW-MASS X-RAY BINARY SUBCLASSES

The X-ray transient XTE J1701–462 was the first source observed to evolve through all known subclasses of low-magnetic-field neutron star low-mass X-ray binaries (NS-LMXBs), as a result of large

The kHz QPOs as a probe of the X-ray color–color diagram and accretion-disk structure for the atoll source 4U 1728-34

We have taken the kHz QPOs as a tool to probe the correlation between the tracks of X-ray color–color diagram (CCD) and magnetosphere-disk positions for the atoll source 4U 1728-34, based on the

ON THE SPIN OF THE BLACK HOLE IN IC 10 X–1

The compact X-ray source in the eclipsing X-ray binary IC 10 X–1 has reigned for years as ostensibly the most massive stellar-mass black hole, with a mass estimated to be about twice that of its
