Megestrol acetate alone (47 cases) combined (115 cases) with mestranol or sequential with dienestrol diacetate was prescribed for various gynecologic disorders or for studies of its progestational effects. Doses were usually 1 Planovin tablet (5 mg megestrol acetate and .1 mg mestranol) for 20 day cycles or from 2.5-15 mg megestrol acetate with or without 2.5-5 mg dienestrol diacetate. Results of treatment were 4 of 10 permanent cures of secondary amenorrhea; 10 permanent cures of dysmenorrhea…

Ovulation inhibition with sequential therapy. A continuing clinical study of fertility control.
TLDR
The formulation with megestrol acetate in both dose forms was found to be effective for the inhibition of ovulation and control of conception.
The metabolism of megestrol acetate (17-alpha-acetoxy-6-methylpregna-4, 6-diene-3, 20-dione) in the rabbit.
Abstract The metabolism of megestrol acetate (17α-acetoxy-6-methylpregna-4, 6-diene-3, 20-dione) a synthetic steroid of high progestational activity has been-studied in the rabbit. Administered
Gestogens and anti-gestogens as treatment of endometriosis
TLDR
The purpose of this chapter is to describe the place of progestagens and anti-gestagens in the treatment of endometriosis as exemplified by the new compound, gestrinone (Roussel - UCLAF, Paris).
A retrospective study of the association between megestrol acetate administration and mortality among nursing home residents with clinically significant weight loss.
TLDR
MA treatment of elderly nursing home residents with significant weight loss was associated with a significant increase in all-cause mortality without asignificant increase in weight.

Preliminary clinical trials of Volidan (4 mg megestrol acetate and .15 mg ethinyl estradiol combined) were conducted on 183 volunteers for 1457 cycles to choose the optimum dose as that causing the least nausea breakthrough bleeding and weight gain.

TLDR
It was suggested that estrogens might be eliminated in treatment of endometriosis since a decidua may be produced with progestins.
A NEW TEST FOR EFFICACY OF PROGESTATIONAL COMPOUNDS
TLDR
The efficacy of various progestational agents was studied by a simple test based on the inhibition of menses and breakthrough bleeding occurred in only 2 of 60 cases after 2 or 3 months of amenorrhea.
THE NON‐SURGICAL TREATMENT OF ENDOMETRIOSIS BY PROGESTOGENS
The method used in this study is different from that employed by Kistner. He used these compounds continuously for about six months in order to stimulate the endometriotic areas to convert themselves
Anti-estrogen assay of neutral steroids administered by subcutaneous injection.
TLDR
The relative antiestrogenic potency of 26 steroids is reported on the basis of the minimum weight of compound needed to produce a statistically significant inhibition of the uterine stimulation produced by 0.4 μg.
