Positional, structural, and dynamical parameters for all dwarf galaxies in and around the Local Group are presented, and various aspects of our observational understanding of this volume-limited sample are discussed. Over 100 nearby galaxies that have distance estimates reliably placing them within 3 Mpc of the Sun are identified. This distance threshold samples dwarfs in a large range of environments, from the satellite systems of the MW and M31, to the quasi-isolated dwarfs in the outer…
The properties of dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the Cen A group
Dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) have been extensively investigated in the Local Group, but their low luminosity and surface brightness make similar work in more distant galaxy groups challenging.
Stellar Population and Structural Properties of Dwarf Galaxies and Young Stellar Systems in the M81 Group
We use Hyper Suprime-Cam on the Subaru Telescope to investigate the structural and photometric properties of early-type dwarf galaxies and young stellar systems at the center of the M81 Group. We
Dwarf galaxy planes: the discovery of symmetric structures in the Local Group
Both major galaxies in the Local Group (LG) are surrounded by thin planes of mostly co-orbiting satellite galaxies, the vast polar structure (VPOS) around the Milky Way (MW) and the Great Plane of
The Leo-I group: new dwarf galaxy and ultra diffuse galaxy candidates
Context. The study of dwarf galaxies and their environments provides crucial test beds for predictions of cosmological models and insights into the structure formation on small cosmological scales.
Two Local Volume Dwarf Galaxies Discovered in 21 cm Emission: Pisces A and B
We report the discovery of two dwarf galaxies, Pisces A and B, from a blind 21 cm H i search. These were the only two galaxies found via optical imaging and spectroscopy of 22 H i clouds identified
Rapid Environmental Quenching of Satellite Dwarf Galaxies in the Local Group
In the Local Group, nearly all of the dwarf galaxies ( M star ≲ 10 9 M ⊙ ?> ) that are satellites within 300 ?> kpc (the virial radius) of the Milky Way (MW) and Andromeda (M31) have quiescent star
Dwarf Galaxies in the Halo of NGC 891
We report the results of a survey of the region within 40 arcmin of NGC 891, a nearby nearly perfectly edge-on spiral galaxy. Candidate “non-stars” with diameters greater than 15 arcsec were selected
The dwarf galaxy satellite system of Centaurus A
Dwarf galaxy satellite systems are essential probes to test models of structure formation, making it necessary to establish a census of dwarf galaxies outside of our own Local Group. We present deep
An extensive catalogue of early-type galaxies in the nearby Universe
We present a catalogue of 1715 early-type galaxies from the literature, spanning the luminosity range from faint dwarf spheroidal galaxies to giant elliptical galaxies. The aim of this catalogue is
A Collection of New Dwarf Galaxies in NGC 5128’s Western Halo
We report the photometric properties of 16 dwarf galaxies, 15 of which are newly identified, in the Western halo of the nearby giant elliptical galaxy NGC 5128. All of the candidates are found at

H i IN LOCAL GROUP DWARF GALAXIES AND STRIPPING BY THE GALACTIC HALO
We examine the H i content and environment of all of the Local Group dwarf galaxies (Mtot < 1010 M☉), including the numerous newly discovered satellites of the Milky Way and M31. All of the new
A Trio of New Local Group Galaxies with Extreme Properties
TLDR
The discovery of three new dwarf galaxies in the Local Group are reported on, which indicate that the full parameter space occupied by dwarf galaxies is not yet sampled, although this is an essential prerequisite for successfully and consistently linking these systems to the predicted cosmological dark matter substructure.
Gas-Rich Dwarf Spheroidals
We present evidence that 10 of the 21 dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSph and dSph/dIrr) in the Local Group are associated with large reservoirs of atomic gas, reservoirs that are, in some cases, larger
The Neutral Interstellar Medium in Nearby Dwarf Galaxies. II. NGC 185, NGC 205, and NGC 147
We present new, high-resolution observations of the interstellar medium (ISM) in the two dwarf elliptical galaxies NGC 185 and NGC 205, as well as a new upper limit on the H I content of the dwarf
The Neutral Interstellar Medium in Nearby Dwarf Galaxies. III. Sagittarius DIG, LGS 3, and Phoenix
We present new VLA observations of the H I medium of the Local Group dwarf galaxies Sag DIG, LGS 3, and Phoenix. Sag DIG is a gas-rich, blue dwarf irregular with some known recent star formation,
DEEP Ks-NEAR-INFRARED SURFACE PHOTOMETRY OF 80 DWARF IRREGULAR GALAXIES IN THE LOCAL VOLUME
We present deep near-infrared (Ks) images and surface photometry for 80 dwarf irregular galaxies (dIs) within ∼5 Mpc of the Milky Way. The galaxy images were obtained at five different facilities
MEASURING SIZES OF ULTRA-FAINT DWARF GALAXIES
The discovery of ultra-faint dwarf (UFD) galaxies in the halo of the Milky Way extends the faint end of the galaxy luminosity function to a few hundred solar luminosities. This extremely low
LOCAL GROUP DWARF ELLIPTICAL GALAXIES. II. STELLAR KINEMATICS TO LARGE RADII IN NGC 147 AND NGC 185
We present kinematic and metallicity profiles for the M 31 dwarf elliptical (dE) satellite galaxies NGC 147 and NGC 185. The profiles represent the most extensive spectroscopic radial coverage for
The Milky Way, an Exceptionally Quiet Galaxy: Implications for the Formation of Spiral Galaxies
We compare both the Milky Way and M31 galaxies to local external disk galaxies within the same mass range, using their locations in the planes drawn by Vflat versus MK (the Tully-Fisher relation),
Kinematic and Chemical Constraints on the Formation of M31’s Inner and Outer Halo
The halo of M31 shows a wealth of substructures, some of which are consistent with assembly from satellite accretion. Here we report on kinematic and abundance results from Keck DEIMOS spectroscopy
