The present paper is an account of some of the investigations on the biology of the perch (Perca fluviatilis Linn.) in Windermere, which are being conducted in connexion with a trap-fishery experiment (Worthington, 1950). This experiment is mainly a study of populations, but it has been necessary simultaneously to investigate the general biology of the perch, particularly the growth and related aspects. The computation of a formula to express the length, weight relationship and provide a means…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Length, weight and condition factor of Acartia clausi (Copepoda) in the eastern Mediterranean

There was an inverse relationship between temperature and length, a pattern shown by many copepods, and food, expressed as chlorophyll, affected the size and condition factor, and could act as a limiting factor on length and weight of A. clausi.

Length-weight relationship and condition factor of Tetraodon cutcutia ( Ham ) from Neematighat , Assam ( India )

The study of length-weight relationship is of paramount importance in fishery science, as it assists in understanding the general well being and growth patterns in a fish population. According to

Length-weight relationship, condition factor and fecundity of the African Pike Hepsetus odoe (Bloch, 1974) in Eleiyele Reservoir, Ibadan, south-west Nigeria

Some aspects of growth and reproductive biology of Hepsetus odoe, a commercial fish species from Lake Eleiyele, were investigated from October 2010 to April 2011 to enhance effective management and

LENGTH WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP AND CONDITION FACTOR OF LIZA MACROLEPIS (SMITH, 1946) IN CHILIKA LAGOON, ODISHA, INDIA

A total of 440 fish specimens were collected from a rtisanal fishers from two fish landing centres i.e., Kalupadaghat and Balugaon of the lago on during pre-monsoon (February & March), monsoon (July

Length-weight relation, condition factor and gonadosomatic index of the whitemouth croaker, Micropogonias furnieri (Desmarest, 1823) (Actinopterygii: Sciaenidae), caught in Lençóis Bay, state of Maranhão, eastern Amazon, Brazil

The analysis of the variation in the condition factor suggests that lower values coincided with higher gonadosomatic index values and that this factor is a good reproductive indicator for M. furnieri in the region.

The sources of variations in the weight-length relationship parameters, and in the Fulton's, allometric, and relative condition factors (K) of the characiform fish Triportheus guentheri were investigated and problems using these parameters as indicators of condition suggested that they are not good indices to express condition.

LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP AND RELATIVE CONDITION OF THE MUD EEL MONOPTERUS CUCHIA (HAMILTON-BUCHANAN) FROM

The length-weight relationship of the mud eel Monopterus cuchia from West Bengal was calculated using the methods of least squares, which can be expressed by the equation, Log W = 0.494 + 3.05 Log L,

Length-weight relationship and condition factor of Micropogonias furnieri (Desmarest) (Perciformes, Sciaenidae) in the Sepetiba Bay, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil

Spatially, the best condition was observed in the inner bay zone, where most fish were young-of-the-year, and in the outer zone where predominate larger sized fish, indicating that individuals of intermediary size could be allocating large amount of energy for growth, presenting, consequently, lowest condition.

On the early growth of 0+ perch, Perca fluviatilis, in Windermere

Growth of 0+ perch Perca fluviatilis was found to be logistic, and could not be described by the von Bertalanffy growth curve.

Length Weight Relationship (LWR) and Condition Factor (K) of Brown Trout, Salmo trutta fario

Length-weight relationships and condition factor of Salmo trutta fario (Brown trout) at Kokernag trout fish farm, Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir was estimated for a period of one year indicating robustness or well being of the experimental fish.

The food and migration of the perch (Perca fluviatilis) in Windermere.

The perch (Percafluviatilis Linn.) is very abundant in Windermere and was suitable for an investigation, since it could easily be obtained in sufficient numbers to make observations on its food and migrations possible.

The Determination of the Age and Growth of the Perch (Perca fluviatilis) from the Opercular Bone

The fact that many fish show rings on such skeletal structures as scales, bones, otoliths and fin rays, has, been known for a long time. In many cases these rings have been shown to be annual in

Some Observations on the Biology of the Trout (Salmo trutta) in Windermere

THE observations upon which this paper is based were obtained while working at the laboratory of the Freshwater Biological Association on Windermere between November 1933 and October 1935. Windermere

1. Two-year-old trout were grown in environments where the following factors were controlled: temperature, amount and intensity of illumination, rate of flow, composition and aeration of the water,

Age and growth of the kiyi, Leucichthys kiyi Koelz, in Lake Michigan

Abstract Ages were determined and individual growth histories were calculated from the examination and measurement of the scales of 1,649 kiyis captured at seven localities in Lake Michigan in 1931

The mechanics of environmental control of body form in fishes

Direct evidence of the role of inflection in the determination of body form was found in natural populations and experimental lots of rainbow trout and the slope of relative-growth lines was altered experimentally by ~alnu~nlion' Relatively large head parts resulted.

A Specific Gravity Method for Determining Fatness (Condition) in Herring (Clupea pallasii)

Seasonal trends in F and a high positive correlation between F and percentage oil content of individual fish demonstrate its superiority over other condition factors as an index of fatness.

Problems of relative growth

This detailed study of the different rates of growth of parts of the body relative to the body as a whole represents Sir Julian Huxley's great contribution to analytical morphology, and it is still a
