This paper describes the results of a study to investigate the effect of a centreline fin, in combination with a steerable nozzle propeller, on the manoeuvrability of a Great Lakes' bulk carrier. Data was obtained from manoeuvring experiments on a scale model and full scale trials on two sister ships of the same design as the model. The conclusion was that the fin did not significantly influence the manoeuvrability of the ship when doing turns of 60 degree change of heading and turning circles… CONTINUE READING
