The photoreduction of protochlorophyllide to chlorophyllide upon illumination of etiolated bean seedlings (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is followed by a series of dark steps involving absorption and circular dichroism spectral changes. Related changes can be seen in a pigmentprotein, protochlorophyllide holochrome, isolated from bean etioplasts.
