@article{Spekkens2014THEDO, title={THE DEARTH OF NEUTRAL HYDROGEN IN GALACTIC DWARF SPHEROIDAL GALAXIES}, author={Kristine Spekkens and Natasha Urbancic and Brian S. Mason and Beth Willman and James E. Aguirre}, journal={The Astrophysical Journal Letters}, year={2014}, volume={795} }
We present new upper limits on the neutral hydrogen (H i) content within the stellar half-light ellipses of 15 Galactic dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs), derived from pointed observations with the Green Bank Telescope (GBT) as well as Arecibo L-band Fast ALFA survey and Galactic All-Sky Survey data. All of the limits are more stringent than previously reported values, and those from the GBT improve upon constraints in the literature by a median factor of 23. Normalizing by V-band luminosity LV…

A Correlated Search for Local Dwarf Galaxies in GALFA-H i and Pan-STARRS
- PhysicsThe Astrophysical Journal
- 2019
In recent years, ultrafaint dwarf (UFD) galaxies have been found through systematic searches of large optical surveys. However, the existence of Leo T, a nearby gas-rich dwarf, suggests that there…
Deep neutral hydrogen observations of Leo T with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope
- Physics
- 2017
Leo T is the lowest mass gas-rich galaxy currently known and studies of its gas content help us understand how such marginal galaxies survive and form stars. We present deep neutral hydrogen (HI)…
NGC 6822 as a Probe of Dwarf Galactic Evolution
- PhysicsThe Astrophysical Journal
- 2020
NGC 6822 is the closest isolated dwarf irregular galaxy to the Milky Way. Its proximity and stellar mass ( , large for a dwarf galaxy) allow for a detailed study of its kinematic properties. The red…
A TIDALLY DISRUPTING DWARF GALAXY IN THE HALO OF NGC 253

We use a new, improved version of the HI Parkes All-Sky Survey to search for HI emission from nine new, ultra-faint Milky Way satellite galaxy candidates recently discovered in data from the Dark…
Two Local Volume Dwarf Galaxies Discovered in 21 cm Emission: Pisces A and B
- Physics
- 2014
We report the discovery of two dwarf galaxies, Pisces A and B, from a blind 21 cm H i search. These were the only two galaxies found via optical imaging and spectroscopy of 22 H i clouds identified…
Atomic hydrogen in IllustrisTNG galaxies: the impact of environment parallelled with local 21-cm surveys
- PhysicsMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

We investigate the influence of environment on the cold-gas properties of galaxies at z=0 within the TNG100 cosmological, magnetohydrodynamic simulation, part of the IllustrisTNG suite. We extend…
Constraints on the H i Mass for NGC 1052-DF2
- PhysicsThe Astrophysical Journal
- 2019
We report deep, single-dish 21 cm observations of NGC 1052-DF2, taken with the Green Bank Telescope. NGC 1052-DF2, proposed to be lacking in dark matter, is currently classified as an ultra-diffuse…
