THE COMPACT INTEGRATED PUPILLOGRAPH CIP (AMTECH) - ITS VALUE ON DETECTION OF PSYCHOPHYSICAL DISORDER CAUSED BY DRUGS
@inproceedings{Priemer2000THECI, title={THE COMPACT INTEGRATED PUPILLOGRAPH CIP (AMTECH) - ITS VALUE ON DETECTION OF PSYCHOPHYSICAL DISORDER CAUSED BY DRUGS}, author={Fritz Priemer and Howard Martin Sachs}, year={2000} }
Considering the increase of drug influenced drivers, it becomes more and more necessary to create tests to identify drug influenced drivers. Since 1995 we have access to the compact integrated pupillograph CIP, which allows reliable measurements of pupil dynamics as well as eye movements. The principle of measurement is based on infrared reflection. The device seems to be very effective to examine effects of various psychoactive substances on brain function or vision control, respectively. The…

The potential of infrared pupillography in routine police traffic checks
- MedicineRechtsmedizin
- 2015
Infrared pupillography represents an objective method of measuring the pupil function to indicate a possible influence by central nervous acting substances and should become a regular method in scheduled traffic controls in the future, preferably in cooperation with forensic medical centers.

It would thus appear desirable to make infrared pupillography a routine part of police checks in the near future, providing a reliable indicator of previous consumption of drugs and/or medication.

The results demonstrate a strong relationship between ongoing sleep deprivation and typical changes in the frequency profiles of spontaneous pupillary oscillations and the tendency to instability in pupil size in normals and suggest that the results of pupil data analysis permit an objective measurement of sleepiness.

A pupillographic sleepiness test based on the evaluation of spontaneous pupillary changes in darkness is applicable in hypersomniacs and may facilitate therapy control, i.e. diagnostic grading by measuring daytime sleepiness objectively.

There was a quite wide range of overlap between AD and controls and no cut‐off point was found with a high enough specificity to consider this a conclusive diagnostic test, but lower dilatation response in the overlapping range may be useful because of its negative predictive value.
