Recently a group of therapeutic agents called “tranquilizers” has been introduced into medicine. This word, which is interchangeable with the term “ataraxics,” is used to describe agents that quiet seriously disturbed psychotics, cause remission of schizophrenic and paranoic symptoms, bring peace of mind to overwrought neurotics, or antagonize the manifestations of hallucinogenic agents.
