We model the dynamical structure of M87 (NGC4486) using high spatial resolution long-slit observations of stellar light in the central regions, two-dimensional stellar light kinematics out to half of the effective radius, and globular cluster velocities out to eight effective radii. We simultaneously fit for four parameters: black hole mass, dark halo core radius, dark halo circular velocity, and stellar mass-to-light (M/L) ratio. We find a black hole mass of 6.4({+-}0.5) x 10{sup 9} M {sub sun…

The Black Hole Mass and the Stellar Ring in NGC 3706
We determine the mass of the nuclear black hole (M) in NGC 3706, an early-type galaxy with a central surface brightness minimum arising from an apparent stellar ring, which is misaligned with respect
NGC 307 and the effects of dark-matter haloes on measuring supermassive black holes in disc galaxies
We present stellar-dynamical measurements of the central supermassive black hole (SMBH) in the S0 galaxy NGC 307, using adaptive-optics IFU data from VLT-SINFONI. We investigate the effects of
The Supermassive Black Hole and Dark Matter Halo of NGC 4649 (M60)
We apply the axisymmetric orbit superposition modeling to estimate the mass of the supermassive black hole (BH) and dark matter (DM) halo profile of NGC 4649. We have included data sets from the
Orbit-based dynamical models of the Sombrero Galaxy (NGC 4594)
We present axisymmetric, orbit-based models to study the central black hole, stellar mass-to-light ratio, and dark matter halo of NGC 4594 (M104, the Sombrero Galaxy). For stellar kinematics, we use
The Effect of Spatial Gradients in Stellar Mass-to-light Ratio on Black Hole Mass Measurements
We have tested the effect of spatial gradients in stellar mass-to-light ratio () on measurements of black hole masses (M •) derived from stellar orbit superposition models. Such models construct a
Depleted Galaxy Cores and Dynamical Black Hole Masses
Shallow cores in bright, massive galaxies are commonly thought to be the result of scouring of stars by mergers of binary supermassive black holes. Past investigations have suggested correlations
The Black Hole Mass in the Brightest Cluster Galaxy NGC?6086
We present the first direct measurement of the central black hole mass, M ?, in NGC?6086, the Brightest Cluster Galaxy (BCG) in A2162. Our investigation demonstrates for the first time that
A black hole mass determination for the compact galaxy Mrk 1216
Mrk 1216 is a nearby, early-type galaxy with a small effective radius of 2.8 kpc and a large stellar velocity dispersion of 308 km/s for its K-band luminosity of 1.4x10^11 L_sun. Using integral-field
MRK 1216 and NGC 1277 – an orbit-based dynamical analysis of compact, high-velocity dispersion galaxies
We present a dynamical analysis to infer the structural parameters and properties of the two nearby, compact, high-velocity dispersion galaxies MRK 1216 and NGC 1277. Combining deep Hubble Space
The influence of dark matter halos on dynamical estimates of black hole mass: 10 new measurements for high-σ early-type galaxies
Adaptive optics assisted SINFONI observations of the central regions of 10 early-type galaxies are presented. Based primarily on the SINFONI kinematics, 10 black hole (BH) masses occupying the

A Relationship between Nuclear Black Hole Mass and Galaxy Velocity Dispersion
We describe a correlation between the mass Mbh of a galaxy's central black hole and the luminosity-weighted line-of-sight velocity dispersion σe within the half-light radius. The result is based on a
The Structure of cold dark matter halos
High resolution N-body simulations show that the density profiles of dark matter halos formed in the standard CDM cosmogony can be fit accurately by scaling a simple “universal” profile. Regardless
We determine the mass of the black hole at the center of the spiral galaxy NGC 4258 by constructing axisymmetric dynamical models of the galaxy. These models are constrained by high spatial
Weighing the Quiescent Central Black Hole in an Elliptical Galaxy with X-Ray-Emitting Gas
We present a Chandra study of the hot interstellar medium (ISM) in the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 4649. In common with other group-centered ellipticals, its temperature profile rises with radius in
The mass of the black hole in Centaurus A from SINFONI AO-assisted integral-field observations of stellar kinematics
We present a determination of the mass of the supermassive black hole (BH) and the nuclear stellar orbital distribution of the elliptical galaxy Centaurus A (Cen A) (NGC 5128) using high-resolution
Dynamical modelling of luminous and dark matter in 17 Coma early-type galaxies
Dynamical models for 17 early-type galaxies in the Coma cluster are presented. The galaxy sample consists of flattened, rotating as well as non-rotating early-types including cD and S0 galaxies with
The Supermassive Black Hole of M87 and the Kinematics of Its Associated Gaseous Disk
We have carried out the first HST long-slit observations of a gaseous disk around a candidate super-massive black hole. The results of this study on the kinematics of the gaseous disk in M 87 are a
Evidence for a supermassive object in the nucleus of the galaxy M87 from SIT and CCD area photometry.
Two-dimensional SIT and CCD detectors have been used to measure the surface brightness of the peculiar elliptical radio galaxy M87. Measurements were made in three broad-band colors (B, V, and R) to
The SAURON project - IV. The mass-to-light ratio, the virial mass estimator and the Fundamental Plane of elliptical and lenticular galaxies
We investigate the well-known correlations between the dynamical mass-to-light ratio M/L and other global observables of elliptical (E) and lenticul ar (S0) galaxies. We construct twointegral Jeans
The black hole-bulge relationship in QSOS
We use quasi-stellar object (QSO) emission-line widths to examine the MBH-σ* relationship as a function of redshift and to extend the relationship to larger masses. Supermassive black holes in
