The orient clam Meretrix meretrix Linnaeus is one of the common species along the coast of eastern countries such as Japan, Korea and China. It is distributed extensively all over the coast of China as one of the most important aquaculture species, and featured with special stripes on the shell of most of the mollusca. However, the stripes are different in species, dense and colorful in the species from Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea, but loose and simple for those from South China Sea and East China…
Morphological and karyotypic variation in three wild populations of Meretrix meretrix
TLDR
Three wild populations of Meretrix meretrix sampled from Dongxing, Beihai, and Shankou along the coast of Guangxi, China, were investigated with morphometry and karyometry, indicating a high level of inter-population variation in morphology and kARYotype.
Comparison of the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) Regions Between Hybrid and Their Parents in Scallop
TLDR
The data implied a commonality that the ITS regions of offspring shared more similarity with that of female parents, which will help for further studies in heterosis mechanism and utilization of hybrid scallop in China.
Genetic diversity and population structure of Meretrix petechialis in China revealed by sequence-related amplified polymorphism markers
TLDR
The results obtained here indicated that M. petechialis have high degree of genetic diversity and the potential of further breeding with excellent germplasm resources, and the analysis of molecular variance revealed low but significant genetic differentiation among local and regional populations.
Phylogenetic analysis of Veneridae(Mollusca:Bivalvia) based on the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene fragment
TLDR
Tree topologies showed that all species of Veneridae are in the same group, forming a clade distinct from the outgroup species, and tree topologies indicated that M.lusoria, M.petechialis, and M.meretrix are closely related species.
Mining single nucleotide polymorphisms from EST data of hard clam Meretrix meretrix
TLDR
The first set of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping assays for hard clam found through expressed sequence tag (EST) database mining indicate that EST data constitutes a valuable resource for SNP discovery and further maker development.
Microsatellite-based genetic and growth analysis for a diallel mating design of two stocks of the clam, Meretrix meretrix
TLDR
A significant maternal effect was revealed after analysis of the effects of egg origin and mating strategy on the four traits and implies an extensive development potential in productive efficiency and genetic improvement for M. meretrix.
