Transforming-growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) is a pleiotrophic growth factor that is synthesized by many cells in the body. This growth factor is chemotactic for fibroblasts, stimulates fibroblast proliferation, and increases the synthesis of a number of extracellular matrix proteins including collagens.
