Abstract : Two multitube potassium boilers were designed, built, and tested in a 400 thermal kilowatt heat transfer loop. The first boiler was a 19-tube (1/4-inch inside diameter), tube and shell boiler with sodium as the heating fluid in the shell and potassium in the tubes. The second was similar, with 12-tubes of 3/8-inch inside diameter inside the same shell. The nominal design points for the two boilers were common.
