The genus Latrodectus Walckenaer, 1805 (Araneae: Theridiidae) is a worldwide distribute genus (Graudins et al., 2001), it includes a group of species commonly referred to as widow spiders. It's considered a taxonomically complex genus as the status of several forms had not been properly evaluated and specific boundaries are not well defined or understood (Levi, 1959; 1967; Garb et al., 2001), therefore, in multiple cases, populations has been uncritically referred to as different taxa…

Widow spiders in the New World: a review on Latrodectus Walckenaer, 1805 (Theridiidae) and latrodectism in the Americas
TLDR
This review addresses widow spiders’ taxonomy; geographical distribution and epidemiology; symptoms and treatments of envenomation (latrodectism); venom collection, experimental studies, proteome and transcriptome; and biotechnological studies on these Latrodectus spp.
Taxonomical Study of Spiders (Order, Araneae) from Different Localities of Iraq
TLDR
This study represents the first molecular and morphological work on spiders of Iraq with specimens collected from different localities in seven provinces during June 2018-July 2019 in different climate conditions and identified eight families representing 17 genera and nine species.
New Data on Latrodectus tredecimguttatus Rossi, 1790, the Medically Important Spider Species (Araneae: Theridiidae) from Iran.
TLDR
The presence of Latrodectus species under the rocks in wheat farms in this corner of Iran may be a threat to farms and visitors, so people in these areas should wear gloves and avoid any activity that disturbs the spiders and make them aggressive.

COSMOPOLITAN AND PANTROPICAL SPECIES OF THERIDIID SPIDERS (Araneae: Theridiidae)
TLDR
Of the several theridiid spiders known to be cosmopolitan or Pantropical, most have not previously been recognized as such and all spiders described here are expected to be in the Pacific.
New records of three Latrodectus species found in Khorasan province (Araneae: Theridiidae)
TLDR
Three Threidiid spiders of the genus Latrodectus occur in Khorasan province and are described, their diagnostic features are illustrated, and taxonomic notes are given where possible.
Red-back spider (Latrodectus hasselti) antivenom prevents the toxicity of widow spider venoms.
TLDR
RBS-AV prevented both in vitro and in vivo toxicity from Latrodectus venoms and alpha-latrotoxin in mice, suggesting that RBS- AV may be clinically effective in the treatment of envenomation resulting from the bite of other widow spiders.
First record of Red-Back Spider Latrodectus hasselti Thorell ,1870(Araneae:Theridiidae) from Basrah, South of Iraq
TLDR
The Red-back spider Latrodectus hasselti Thorell,1870 is reported from temperate and tropical zone throughout the world, but for the first time from Safwan area, Basrah, South of Iraq is reported.
Ground-dwelling arthropod (Araneae, Coleoptera: Carabidae, Isopoda: Oniscidea) assemblages on Hungarian main road verges
Abstract In this study, we research ground-dwelling arthropods along four road stretches, which represent the main verge habitats (arid grassland, agricultural area, forest, and wetland) of Hungary.
DNA metabarcoding of insects and allies: an evaluation of primers and pipelines
TLDR
This study suggests that metabarcode is slowly becoming as cheap, fast and easy as conventional DNA barcoding, and that Malaise trap metabarcoding may soon fulfill its potential, providing a thermometer for biodiversity.
