Because senile plaques in Alzheimer's disease (AD) contain reactive microglia in addition to potentially neurotoxic aggregates of amyloid-beta (Abeta), we examined the influence of microglia on the viability of rodent neurons in culture exposed to aggregated Abeta 1-40.
