A digital system which enables the generation of frequencies, including frequencies which are not submultiples of a reference frequency is disclosed. A predetermined number K is periodically added at the rate of fc to the contents of an N bit register which is permitted to overflow when its content exceeds its capacity. Any frequency equal to Kf c/2N may be generated by the system.
