Synthesis of l-dopa by escherichia intermedia cells immobilized in a polyacrylamide gel

Abstract

Escherichia intermedia cells were immobilized by entrapment in a polyacrylamide gel and used for l-dopa synthesis from pyrocatechol, pyruvate and ammonia. An immobilized cell preparation containing 75 mg cells/g gel retained 45%–50% of the activity of free cells.
